We Are the World
Wednesday, January 20, 2010

This Saturday, January 23 from 6-9 pm Roots & Culture Contemporary Art Center will be hosting an opening reception for the exhibition We Are the World curated by Liliana Lewicka.
In 1985 Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson co-wrote “We Are the World” and recorded the now-famous tune alongside nearly 50 of the biggest names in music to raise money and awareness for the famine crisis in Africa.
This exhibition is both a look at the significance of this tender moment in pop culture history and a preamble; bringing together some of the most notable young artists born during the 1980's by inviting them to re-imagine We Are the World as it could have been.
Featuring:
Ninna Berger, Caitlin Denny, John Henderson, Parker Ito, Zachary Kaplan, Anne Guro Larsmon, Matt Momchilov, Justin Olerud, Job Piston, Melissa Sachs, Bailey Salisbury, and Justin Swinburne.

Each picture is taken directly off the wall after selling, fragmenting the narrative and increasing the complexity of the series.

Barbara Kasten, Shadow = Light
Saturday, January 16, 2010

For everyone in Los Angeles, you should head to Gallery Luisotti tonight from 6-8pm to see seminal photographer Chicago photographer Barbara Kasten's exhibition Shadow = Light: New Works.
This show has Kasten returning to a familiar theme that has faithfully informed her practice since the 1970s: the interplay between light, space, and the physical form. With those formal concerns in mind the show promises to be crisp, clean, and utterly beautiful.
Kasten has exhibited nationally and internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions including Museum of Modern Art, New York, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Los Angeles County Museum of art. She was a past recipient of Guggenheim and Fulbright fellowships. Basically; you name it, she's done it.

The Beginning of a New Era - We're Moving!
Friday, January 15, 2010

We're celebrating the beginning of 2010 with a big change. Golden Age has grown so much in the last two years (thanks to you!) and we're moving out of our Pilsen location to the West Loop. Online orders will still go out as normal.
We're looking forward to all the rad publications that are coming out in 2010 and to the new space. We'll have a more curated selection with new projects from international artists coming up!
Our last open day in Pilsen will be Sunday, January 24th and we will be reopening at our new space in late February 2010. We'll keep you posted and we're looking forward to seeing you at the new space.
All our best,
Marco and Martine
