I run a weekly column on ArtFagCity.com called “Best Link Ever.” It focuses on rare gems on the web that are sometimes viral and usually funny. Rather than recapitulate Best Link Ever I’ve included some less one-liner-y things, but here’s my favorite Chicago-centric Best Link Ever to date: Best Link Ever! Twitter Tracks Chicago's Tamale Guy. I also didn’t include any fashion sites because Naomi was so on top of that!
1. Wikipedia: I spend a lot, lot, lot of time on Wikipedia. People make the most amazing lists and I often get caught up in shit like “Fairy rings.”
2. Ethereal Self: A recent conversation with Daniel Keller (www.aids-3d.com) helped me realize that Harm van den Dorpel’s etherealself.com is one of the best net art pieces I know of.
3. Contemporary Art Daily: Really incredible blog with a ton of high quality images. Forrest has ec taste, especially in painting, and he just graduated from SAIC this year.
4. Moon Chalice: This site is a rabbit hole for anyone into psychoanalysis, Greek mythology, and/or Sylvia Plath. I’ve lost a lot of sleep reconnecting with my angsty teenage self via this site.
5. One Star Press: I recently met Christophe Boutin, a charismatic Parisian man who runs one star press. Boutin publishes artist books and has impeccable taste, ranging from Rafael Rozendaal to Haim Steinbach. Also, every issue is published online on their site as a PDF. A great resource!
6. Mildred's Lane: Operated by J. Morgan Puett and Mark Dion, Mildred’s Lane functioned as my rite of passage into the New York art world. I spent a good deal of time there last summer and met some of the most creative, insightful and generous people in New York.
7. BFFEAE3: A net art site by some truly inventive and young New York based artists.
8. NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day: I usually look at the Astronomy Picture of the Day when I need a break from thinking about the culture industries.
9. Word Info: Nerd time!!! A great site for writers.
