Hanne Mugaas Links Big

1. The Huffington Post. First thing in the morning. 2. The New York Times. Second thing in the morning. 3. My Google Reader. This keeps me occupied for the rest of the morning/ the day. This is practically not a link, but where my links gather. If you don’t have one, get one. 4. The Bichon Frise in Art. My favorite art show of all times. 5. DListed. The best gossip website, because it’s really funny and smart. Michael K., you are my hero. 6. The Selby. I love interior design. My favorite favorite is offline: The UK magazine The World of Interiors. I look in my The World of Interiors magazines every day. If I wasn’t an art person, I would probably work with interiors. I just opened a gallery in New York, and one of the upcoming exhibitions during the Fall will be an interior design show. By the way, this is what I wish my apartment would look like. I love love love those Big Game chairs. 7. Menswear blogs, such as A Continuous Lean and Selectism. I prefer menswear blogs to womens fashion blogs, because they also write about other things such as cars, wine and people’s offices. And I like men’s clothing. It’s very comfortable and often has nicer ranges of colors and fabrics.   8. Men.style.com’s ‘In the Closet’ videos, featuring Tyler Thoreson and the fabulous Josh Peskowitz. Make sure to check out the “Jet Set Edition” for great how-to-pack-for-travel tips. 9. Shopping online. Unfortunately I do this too much. Colette, La Garconne, J Crew (The menswear has an “Extra Small” section, great for women), Ebay, Ooga Booga, and Ligia Dias for jewelry. 10. Yo Gabba Gabba. If you have kids and a TV, you already know. If not, check it out! It’s on Nickelodeon, but you can watch a bunch of videos on their website. Party In My Tummy!  [Hanne Mugaas recently opened the gallery Art Since the Summer of ’69 in Manhattan. She is also working with the curatorial office and gallery Dispatch, and is in charge of the blogs ‘Hanne’s Art and Culture Blog’ and ‘Hanne’s Fashion Blog’.]

March to the Beat of Your Own Drum

Hall Manufacturing, the one-man-organization that built all of our furniture in two weeks (!), will be hosting a two-part event and installation at [prak-sis] next Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday an ensemble of musicians from Academy Records attempt to create infinite space and time using recorded loops, repeating rhythms, and repetitive vocals, while on Sunday there is an all ages rhythm workshop exploring improvisation, traditional rhythms, and dynamics. Each participant will be invited to take a Hall-manufactured Cajon drum home at the end of the workshop! More info on Hall Mfg.

Whoop Dee Doo!

Whoop Dee Doo is a kid-friendly crazy skit and dance show based in Kansas City, Missouri that is "totally inspired" by Pee Wee’s Playhouse, The Gong Show, Soul Train, Double Dare, and You Can’t Do that on Television. Whoop Dee Doo is co-hosted by photographer Jaimie Warren, and features a rotating cast of local performers, talented kids, and conceptual artists. Costumes are made by fashion designer Peggy Noland and SSION is the house band! We wish Whoop Dee Doo was around when we were kids, but now that they've launched their NEW WEBSITE we can watch episodes whenever we want. Hooray!

Who's There?

One of favorite art spaces Knock Knock Gallery, run by our long-time pal (Marco's first roommate) Harley Young, got a shout-out in Art in America! Harley Young started KnockKnock Gallery a little over a year ago, basing his space on other alternative venues in Chi-town like Artledge and Old Gold, while converting otherwise superfluous, unusable space into a slightly awkward and very unique gallery space. The staircase and a tiny, windowless closet that constitute part of the apartment Young shares with two other people serve as the site for installations often created specifically for the venue. Some particularly dynamic uses of the space have taken advantage of the attached domestic sphere; for their show last June, The Baby, Matthew Nicholas and Eric Warner closed off the official gallery area and ran a live feed from the stairwell that broadcast their performance onto a television into the living room. Knock Knock also plays host to such popular local series as Supper Sessions, a roving slide-lecture-cum-potluck. While Young, a recent graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, has a pool of talented friends from which to cull artists, he says he doesn't serve as curator as much as he simply allows the gallery to run itself as a project space. If you're in Chicago next weekend, Knock Knock is presenting an installation by John Friel, Saturday, June 27th, 6-10pm.
