The Beaver Trilogy

The above clips are from the first, second and third incantations of The Beaver Trilogy. A film by Trent Harris, about a young man in Beaver, Utah with a hunger to perform.

An important historical note is that these are Sean Penn and Crispin Glover's first screen roles. In their performances, you can really see the influence of Groovin Gary on the characters Jeff Spicoli of Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Marty McFly of Back to the Future

Warp Weft Woof

"Our interests lie in creating design alternatives that emphasize individuality. We believe in the importance of having an active role in the creation of our physical world. Bridging an invisible path to the metaphysical. Initiating other acts of awareness. Awareness is consciousness. Consciousness is reality/truth/life. Passivity is death." via Warp Weft Woof

Ok, so we obviously can't get enough of Warp Weft Woof. WWW is a design collaborative between Bailey Salisbury and Myranda Gillies, based out of Brooklyn, NY. They recently started a Flickr account and uploaded some totally drool-worthy, woven designs. Check em out below.

Bailey will also be speaking in "A Cultural Reader", Golden Age's series of micro-lectures, at the NY Art Book Fair in November. Don't miss it!

David Horvitz: We Would Like To Offer You A Flower

"We would like to offer you a flower, I say a flower because we don't have enough for all of you, but one is enough if you share it and if each one of you keeps a tiny fragment..." -John Berger,  The Shape of a Pocket

Instructions:

Download a flower PDF from below
Find two random fax numbers online
Using an online fax service such as http://faxzero.com/, fax the flower to both numbers (faxzero offers two free faxes a day*)
When they have been successfully sent, e-mail hikarusaru@gmail.com with your (1) name, (2) your location and (3) the locations you sent faxes (please write "fax data" in the email subject)
Repeat again the next day if you wish

A map indicating where faxes have been sent and received will be on display at the Reanimation Library Hyde Park Branch at DoVA Temp Gallery from 10/22 - 11/13. The map will be updated continuously throughout the exhibition. Faxes may be sent from now until the end of the exhibition. The image of the flowers were found in the Reanimation Library in Brooklyn, New York. This is part of Communicating Forms: Aesthetics, Relationality, Collaboration, the fifth annual joint English and Art History conference and exhibition. This piece was curated by Mackenzie Schneider.

* One way around the two fax a day limit is to use multiple email addresses. Another, which this project employs, is to use the collective effort of a lot of people at once.

WAVE INT'L: ISSUE 01

Tonight at Co-Prosperity Sphere Jasmine Lee and Brian Khek present Wave Int'l 01, the first installment in their ongoing exhibition and publication series.

"Wave Int'l is a platform for peers to meet and collaborate on some ideas we've been contemplating in our readings, writings, works and conversations. We hope for our global community to convene in the form of quarterly networks, or Issues, in various geographic locations throughout time. Each issue culminates in an exhibition and publication.

For Issue 01, we invited Ida Lehtonen (Gothenburg, Sweden) and Micah Schippa (Chicago, IL) to talk about iconography in the "office". The issue will feature new works from Lehtonen and Schippa, and a contribution from Bret Schneider (New York, NY)."
