Golden Age (2007–2011) is CLOSED FOREVER. This site now functions as an archive. Thank you for your patronage.
TWICE REMOVED
Golden Age is soliciting individual pieces of take away artworks from personal collections for temporary loan during the length of the exhibition. To contribute, please send a brief description of your items for further submission and loan information. Items must be received by mail or dropped off at Golden Age’s location in Chicago by January 18, 2011.
Encountering the “take away” artwork, consisting of unlimited or large-run editions whose individual pieces are free for the taking, has become a common occurrence in contemporary art exhibitions. A strategy notably employed in Félix González-Torres’ “stack” works, the take away has been used by many other artists with a variety of intents and forms. The spirit of generosity, an exploration of dispersion and the attempt to circumvent the art market are just a few of the potential motivations cited for generating take away works.
Twice Removed aims to provide a venue where the multiplicity of meanings and post-exhibition life implied by the take away model can be considered by exhibiting single units of these works together.
The project will take form as an exhibition, website and pamphlet to be published by Golden Age at the conclusion of the show.
Organized by Karly Wildenhaus, a creative administrator and independent curator living in Chicago.

ROLU at Golden Age

In conjunction with the exhibition Thirty and Eight, ROLU will present new pieces designed to activate one's awareness of the physical actions related to sitting. Matt Olson and Mike Brady of ROLU studio will be present at the opening.
December 17, 2010 - January 16, 2011
Opening: Friday, December 17, 6-9pm
ALSO: Matt Olson was interviewed by our former intern Jabari Jordan-Walker for 01 Magazine!
The Kingsboro Press Anthology

On the cusp of their seventh issue, The Kingsboro Press is offering an "extraordinarily limited" hardcover anthology of their past six issues to $150+ level backers of their Kickstarter project. If you're a fan of critical and engaged art, design and literature I urge you to cop this one. The anthology will not be available for retail or distribution and will be worth a few grand by 2015. That's a sound investment for any word nerd.
PROBLEM SOLVERZ
You may have seen this floating around the blogosphere but if not, it's time to really sit back and enjoy some cartoons.
It's important to note this will be on Cartoon Network for 11 episodes so look forward to talking about knowing Paperrad "before they had their TV show" with your nieces and nephews. One item I wasn't aware of; Paperrad has shown at PaceWildenstein, The New Museum of Contemporary Art, and Deitch Projects...
And speaking of Deitch Projects, do you think this could episode could be an allegorical tale surrounding Jeffrey Deitch's takeover(directorship) of MOCA? The world may never know...

Core77 Gift Guide

You shouldn't be buying gifts from anyone besides Golden Age, BUT if you must please check out the Core77 Gift Guide. I contributed a few items from my personal wishlist and I am absolutely obsessed with these cell phone camera lenses from Lisa Smith's picks. So now you know what to get me...
Thirty and Eight - Derek Chan and Ayako Yamasaki

Golden Age is pleased to present Thirty and Eight, Derek Chan and Ayako Yamasaki featuring furniture from Minneapolis based design studio RO/LU.
Thirty and Eight is a celebration of simplicity and of the basic, everyday rituals we use to compose our lives. Chan will be showing a series of thirty delicate ink drawings from his "Daily Drawings" project and Yamasaki will be presenting a curated selection of eight housewares culled from Tokyo's wholesale district on her most recent trip to Japan. In keeping with these rituals, tea will be served each day at three o'clock.
This is Chan's first exhibition with the gallery and directly follows a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and collaborations with Theaster Gates at the Whitney Museum of American Art during the Whitney Biennial.
December 17, 2010 - January 16, 2011
Opening: Friday, December 17, 6-9pm
