Now stocking Bidoun!

We are now stocking Bidoun Magazine, the world's foremost publication on arts and culture from the Middle East. For Issue 24: SPORTS, Bidoun considers "the apparatus of celebrity and fandom; in the body as commodity; in the mind games and energy drinks and exercise tapes." The magazine also looks at Naga Jolokia, the world's hottest chili, Mohammad Khordadian, the god-king of Persian dancercise, and so much more.

Occasional Performances and Wayward Writings

While in Milwaukee last weekend we had a chance to view The Green Gallery Press' newest publication Occasional Performances and Wayward Writings from Stephen Wetzel.
I first came upon Stephen Wetzel during his lecture in Chicago; he was naked. I don't remember any of his topics or the discussion afterwards, mostly due to the shock of seeing someone lecture nude in a room full of clothed people. It was to say the least, quite unexpected and surreal. This lecture - which I've found out since reading the transciption in Occasional Performances is excellent, focusing on the minutae of teaching, ethics, storytelling and the contemporaneity of cinematic space.
The publication is definitely in line with the other Green Gallery Press in it's simplicity and elegance. With an edition of 80 this is a future classic, get it while copies are available in the webshop.
Chicago Zine Fest and Publications and Multiples Fair

This weekend Golden Age will be participating in two fairs, the Chicago Zine Fest here in the Windy City and the Publications and Multiples Fair in Baltimore. Both are sure to be rad and we're psyched to be included.
The Chicago Zine Fest is back for its second year, and I'm really excited for the workshops! Archiving the Underground: Zines in Academia and the Letterpress workshop look especially promising.

The Publications and Multiples Fair at Open Space is also back for its second year. We really wish we could be there, but the Kingsboro Press will be holding it down for us. There will be over 25 small press publishers and lectures by Matt Keegan (of North Drive Press) and Duncan Hamilton (Uses of Literacy).
If that wasn't enough, we'll also be open this weekend. Stop by if you're in the hood.

Three Card Monte

Three Card Monte
Marco Kane Braunschweiler, Paul Cowan and Martine Syms
March 19th - April 17th, 2011
Opening reception: March 19th, 6-9pm
Tomorrow night at the Green Gallery in beautiful Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Marco, Paul and I will be showing several new works that are straight out of the computer, studio and brain, respectively.
With these works we're looking at what painting, cinema or literature can't do instead of what they can do. We acknowledge the incomplete view of convention to allow for a variety of access points. We open up the symbols of culture to different readings and consider how work can be constructed, displayed and viewed. Three Card Monte uses the analogy of card deck, which is compirsed of individual components, to ask how the meaning of each part changes when it is isolated and/or removed of its original context and intention.
Hope to see you Milwaukeens (Wisconsinites?) there!
Double Issues

Sara Greenberger Rafferty's Printed Phyllis (2010, pictured above) is available for a mere $100 from Rob Halverson's newish project C-O-O-L. I suggest you get it before it's gone.

Greenberger Rafferty recently published, Double Issue, a newsprint artist book of her recent work. The publication disassembles imagery from popular culture to forge visual relationships between Bill Cosby, Woody Allen and Goldie Hawn. Double Issue is a considered gaze at the formal elements of entertainment, celebrity and media. We have a limited number of Double Issue available in store and online.
If that wasn't enough, Greenberger Rafferty will be showing at The Suburban on May 1st. Mark your calendar. I'll see you there.
