Any advice on what might be causing these problems, what's the best course of action to narrow down the possibilities? Your insight is very much appreciated.I'd focus on the egr code first and it's often not the egr valve that is the cause of an egr issue on a honda! My Dakota with a 4.7L with approximately 127000kms, has recently brought up the P0171 code. It started with a rough gambit hitag2 v3.1 2 idle then a rich gasoline smell from the exhaust. The truck runs beautifully and pulls strong at driving speeds but is pretty hard on gas mileage now.
